Games to play with friends, free and in a browser

The hard part of playing games with friends is never finding a game. It is getting six people to all install the same thing at the same time, on six different phones, while one of them is looking for their charger. LanPlay skips that entirely: one screen, one room code, and everyone is in.

Which game you want depends on the group, and the twelve here are deliberately not all the same kind of thing. If the room is competitive, the arcade battle-royale games (Flappy Flock, Balloon Chaos, Traffic Hop, Falling Planets) sort everyone into a ranking in about ninety seconds. If half the room does not really play games, Wavelength and Tower Tumble put nobody at a disadvantage for being slow with their thumbs. If you want the room working together instead of against each other, Tile Rush is co-op and the whole party shares one life.

Below, they are grouped by the kind of night you are having.

Get everyone playing

Picking one, quickly

Never played before? Flappy Flock. One button, everybody understands it instantly, and the first round is over before anyone can complain about the rules.

Want an argument? Territory Clash. Cutting somebody’s trail two seconds before they close a huge loop is the single most satisfying thing in the catalogue.

Mixed ages? Head Soccer. Team football with two buttons, and being bad at it is still funny.

Want everyone on the same side? Tile Rush. It is the only co-op game here, and failing a song eleven seconds from the end unites a room like nothing else.

Playing with friends: FAQ

Group size, skill levels and what to pick.

What can I play with friends online for free, with no download?

Any of the twelve games here. One person opens the shared screen, everyone else scans the room code on their phone, and you play. Nothing is installed, nobody makes an account and nothing costs money.

What is a good game for a group that is not into games?

Wavelength. It has no reflexes in it at all — one partner gives a one-word clue, the other swings a needle — so it rewards knowing each other rather than being good at video games. Tower Tumble is the other easy sell: one button, one decision, everybody watching.

What works best with a big group?

Balance and Balloon Chaos get better the more people are in them, because the crowding is the difficulty. With eight players Balance can barely hold everybody before it even starts shrinking.

Can we play with just two people?

Yes. Every game works at two, and Head Soccer at one-a-side is a genuinely good duel. Wavelength is played in pairs, so two is its minimum and it needs an even number overall.

Do my friends need to be in the same room?

For LanPlay, mostly yes — the shared screen is the point, so everyone needs to see it. Groups do play it over a video call by sharing the screen, but the lag makes the reflex games unfair. The talking and turn-based games survive it much better.

How long does a game night take?

Rounds are 60 to 100 seconds, and most groups play a series of three or five. Budget about five minutes per game, which means you can get through the whole catalogue in an hour if you want to.

Gather the crew.

Throw it on the big screen and let the chaos begin.
